ABOUT WAYNE WONDER
b. Von Wayne Charles, 22 July 1966, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Wonder's first reggae recordings appeared in the mid-80s, when he was working with producers King Tubby and Lloyd Dennis. "You Me And She" was followed by "Night And Day", produced by Soljie. The beautifully crafted "Don't Take It Personal" was also produced by Soljie. Wonder's sweet singing style was soon employed by a number of producers in Jamaica, but his most prolific output came at the Penthouse studio with Donovan Germain and Dave "Rude Boy" Kelly. In 1991, he released "I'm Only Human" and "Baby You And I", both of which enhanced his appeal among women. His cover version of Delroy Wilson's "I Don't Know Why" as "Movie Star" was a classic. The song also provided Buju Banton with a hit when he rode the tune for "Bonafide Love". Another cover version found Wonder singing over a remake of a King Jammy's rhythm, "Run Down The World", for his interpretation of En Vogue's "Hold On". A tour of the UK was arranged in 1992 featuring the Penthouse crew, including Wonder alongside Marcia Griffiths, Tony Rebel and Buju Banton. With Tony Rebel, Wonder's sweet vocals graced the enduring "Smaddy Pickney", a toast over "I'm Only Human" and "Cross Over The Bridge". Buju Banton had secured a contract with the Stateside Mercury label and Wonder provided the singing vocals on "Searching" and "Commitment", as well as composing the tunes with Banton.
