ABOUT THREE DOG NIGHT
Not every top 10 hit begins with the line "Jeremiah was a bullfrog,"
and if you're one of those folks who grew up singing a Christmas Carol called
"Joy To The World," the pleasure was probably twice as enticing when
Three Dog Night and their similarly named keyboard-driven vamp went to the top
of the charts. In fact, most everything these guys did went to the top of the
charts. From 1969 to 1974, they were the most successful hit factory in the land,
with cuts such as "One" (which was covered by Aimee Mann on the Magnolia
soundtrack), "Easy To Be Hard," "Never Been To Spain," "Mama
Told Me Not To Come," and "An Old-Fashioned Love Song." And they
did it all by finding outside songwriters whose material they found worthy of
covering.
