ABOUT THIRD DAY
This Marietta, Georgia, USA-based Christian rock band was formed in the early
90s by Mac Powell (vocals) and Mark Lee (guitar). The line-up was completed by
Tai Anderson (bass), David Carr (drums), and Brad Avery (guitar), and the newly
formed quintet soon built up a following on the southern live circuit with their
hard-hitting live act. They were signed to Gray Dot Records in March 1995, and
released their self-titled debut in June. Comprising songs recorded over the previous
two years, the album was a surprise hit, although similarities to the highly successful
Hootie And The Blowfish undoubtedly helped. A remixed version containing two new
tracks was released by the Arista Records imprint, Reunion Records, the following
year. The band's 1997 sophomore collection, Conspiracy No. 5, saw the band begin
to establish their own identity, and earned them Grammy and Dove nominations.
They relocated to Essential Records for Time in September 1999. Originally released
with a free limited edition EP, the album eschewed the hard rock of their earlier
records for a mellower, roots-orientated approach.
