ABOUT THE TRANSPLANTS
Late 2002 saw the emergence of several "supergroups" comprised of punk/alt
rock notables, such as Eyes Adrift, Audioslave, and the Transplants. Comprised
of Tim Armstrong (vocals/guitar; ex-Rancid), Travis Barker (drums; ex-Blink-182),
and Armstrong's friend Rob "SR" Aston (vocals), the Transplants first
started out as a studio project between just Armstrong and Aston. During December
1999, Aston relocated to Armstrong's home-town of Los Angeles, California, USA,
where the Rancid singer played his friend some new compositions he had put together
in his home recording studio, utilizing Pro Tools, samples, and drum loops. The
duo continued to collaborate for the next couple of years, before they realized
that the songs needed a real drummer to give them life. A phone call to their
favourite drummer led to a jam session, which soon gave way to the formation of
the three-man Transplants line-up. With a sound comparable to their full-time
bands (melodic pop punk) mixed with lyrics that tackle darker subject matter,
the trio signed with Epitaph Records, and issued their self-titled debut in 2002.
