ABOUT THE DANDY WARHOLS
In early '90s grunge may have been happening in Seattle, but the Dandy Warhols,
who came straight out of nearby Portland, Oregon, wanted nothing to do with that
scene. As their name suggested, the Dandys' reference point was the Andy Warhol-influenced
late '60s psychedelic sound, as well as that of the British shoegazer bands. Just
in case people didn't catch those references, the Dandys (singer-guitarist Courtney
Taylor, guitarist Peter Holmstrom, drummer Eric Hedford, and keyboardist Zia McCabe)
chose to wear their influences in their song titles. Dandy's Rule OK, the band's
1995 debut, includes nods and winks to Ride ("Ride"), Lou Reed and the
Velvet Underground ("Lou Weed"), T. Rex ("The Coffee And Tea Wrecks"),
and themselves ("The Dandy Warhols' T.V. Theme Song").
