ABOUT THE CORAL
Merseyside band The Coral were formed in 1996 by schoolmates James Skelly, Ian
Skelly, Bill Ryder-Jones, Nick Power and Lee Southall. The band began working
on their own material as soon as they could play their instruments properly. They
soon signed a record contract with Sony Records and the Coral broke through into
the mainstream in the new millennium with a series of releases that saw them heralded
as one of Britain's best new acts. Their first release was the EP 'Shadows Fall'
in July 2001. It was followed up 5 months later with 'The Oldest Path' EP. The
hype surrounding the band was so big that when they released their debut album
entitled 'The Coral', the band went in at number 5 in the UK album charts. 24
hours after the album had been released, the band were nominated for the Mercury
Music Prize. In July 2003, the band released the single 'Pass It On'. It charted
at number 4 in the singles charts. In late July the band released 'Magic &
Medicine', their second studio album.
