ABOUT STATIC X
This Los Angeles, California, USA-based nu-metal outfit comprises Wayne Static
(b. 4 November 1970, Muskegon, Michigan, USA; vocals, guitar), Tony Campos (b.
California, USA; bass), Koichi Fukuda (b. Osaka, Japan; keyboards, programming)
and Ken Jay (b. 10 June 1971, Jamaica, Illinois, USA; drums). Static and Jay originally
met up in Chicago, where Static played in goth band Deep Blue Dream and Jay worked
in a record store with Billy Corgan (Static's band shared rehearsal space with
a pre-fame Smashing Pumpkins). Static and Jay subsequently relocated to Los Angeles
where there was a more fertile metal scene. Having recruited Fukuda and Campos
the band began to develop their trademark "rhythmic trancecore" sound,
essentially an update of the electronic industrial sound of Ministry and White
Zombie. Two demo tapes, recorded in late 1996 and early 1997 respectively, helped
the band win a deal with Warner Brothers Records in February 1998.
