Who can tell today's alternative bands apart? Who would want to? The "alternative
nation" that has sprouted up during the 1990s has become a disturbingly one-dimensional
circus show for angst-ridden youth driven to replicate the dullness of their experience
on record as faithfully as possible. Whether or not Stabbing Westward are any
better or worse than their fellow travelers is a moot point. They have found an
audience that enjoys their limited abilities and they in turn churn out their
"ongoing integrity," as their Sony bio so succinctly puts it.
