ABOUT SHAZNAY LEWIS
It was never any secret that Shaznay Lewis was the real brains behind All Saints - not only the key songwriter, but also the strongest singer of the four girls. Sadly, anyone hoping that her solo material would be a distillation of the band's high points (minus the backstage tantrums) may well be little disappointed
with this debut. Ambling along in a pallid strum of acoustic guitars, it's hard to escape the fact that Shaznay is obviously treading water - paddling in shallow MOR territory rather than braving the choppier currents of edgy pop. Her decision to team up with Rick Nowels, a man who's also shared songwriting duties with Dido, Charlotte Church and Texas, can't have helped matters; between them they've created a shamefully banal chorus. Hopefully her collaborations with Basement Jaxx and Biz Markie will be made of bolder stuff.
