ABOUT QUEENSRYCHE
Queensryche are a heavy metal band whose signature sound pairs lead singer Geoff
Tate's operatic vibrato with heavy guitar work. The band--Tate, Michael Wilton,
Chris DeGarmo, Eddie Jackson, and Scott Rockenfield--came together in late 1981
in their hometown of Bellevue, Washington near Seattle. They rehearsed in Rockenfield's
basement, which they dubbed "The Dungeon," and got their record deal
with EMI on the basis of a four-song EP they released to local radio through their
self-made "label," 206 Records. This EP contained the songs "Queen
Of The Reich" (from which they derived their band name), "Nightrider,"
"Blinded," and "The Lady Wore Black," all of which would appear
again on their short debut album for EMI, Queensryche, released in 1983. After
touring as a supporting act for bands like Quiet Riot, Dio, and Twisted Sister,
Queensryche went to London in 1984 to record their first full-length disc, The
Warning, with producer James Guthrie (Pink Floyd). That album's followup, 1986's
Rage For Order, led to tours supporting first AC/DC, then Ozzy Osbourne, then
the extremely popular (at the time) Bon Jovi.
