ABOUT PAM TILLIS
In 1991, when Arista released Pam Tillis's first album for the label, men were
dominating the charts and an awful lot of mainstream country music was sounding
alike. It was clear from the very first strains of "Put Yourself In My Place,"
the opening cut on that album, though, that here was someone altogether different.
With a glorious, honey-drenched, twangful voice that sounded as though it had
shot in from another era, Tillis made her grand entrance. Unlike the vast majority
of country stars emerging in the '90s, Tillis quickly distinguished herself as
an artist able to craft delicately delicious singles while still making consistently
strong albums. Listen to 1994's Sweetheart's Dance and 1997's Greatest Hits back
to back to hear how varied yet cohesive her music is.
