ABOUT ORBITAL
In recent years, electronic music pioneers Orbital have established themselves
as one of the most original, musical and innovative acts to come out of the fast-paced
techno/dance genre. Their innovative approach to composing, sampling, recording
and performing live has kept them consistently ahead of the curve in an area of
music that is constantly (and quickly) evolving, and their musicality has garnered
an audience well beyond the average techno fan. In the process, their contributions
have also helped push electronic music ever further into the mainstream. Orbital
began in the south of England, in the bedroom of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll
(who named the band after London's M25 Orbital Motorway, a stretch of highway
circumnavigating the capitol that ravers regularly cruised in search of acid house
parties). Driven by musical interests that encompassed early-'80s electro, hip-hop
and hardcore punk, elder brother Phil assembled a primitive home studio on which
the pair recorded their debut independent single, "Chime" in 1989.
