ABOUT M O P
Keeping it real since their formation in 1993, Brooklyn's M.O.P. (Mash Out Posse)
has been intent on bringing rap back to its roots: the pavement. Rappers Lil'
Fame (who made his debut on The Hill That's Real compilation) and Billy Danze
began rhyming together while in public school, releasing their debut single, "How
About Some Hardcore?," off the House Party 3 soundtrack, which instantly
became an underground classic, in 1993. The full-length, To the Death, followed
in 1994 before the group signed to Relativity Records. M.O.P. came out with their
1996 album, Firing Squad, bringing an even rougher edge to their already abrasive
delivery. As rap/pop megastars like Puff Daddy and Master P rapped about money,
nice cars and fancy clothes, M.O.P. kept relating their tales of day-to-day ghetto
life, becoming underground stars in their own right. The 1998 single, "Handle
Ur Business," produced by Gang Starr's DJ Premier, blew up in the mainstream
and was closely followed by the M.O.P.'s third album, First Family 4 Life. Their
latest, Warriorz, was released in the fall of 2000.
