ABOUT JOHN PAUL YOUNG
b. 21 June 1950, Glasgow, Scotland. After fronting early 70s Sydney band, Elm Tree, former sheet metal worker Young spent the next two years in the Australian version of the stage show Jesus Christ Superstar. He had a hit with
Vanda And Young's "Pasadena" in 1972. Two unsuccessful singles followed and then he teamed up with Vanda And Young again in 1975 for "Yesterday's Hero" which started a run of eight Australian Top 20 singles and two Top 20 albums, mostly songs written by Vanda And Young. Some of his singles also charted in Europe and South Africa, where he performed a number of times. He formed a touring band called the All Stars, an appropriate name as members included Kevin Borich, Ray Goodwin (ex-Dragon), Johnny Dick and Warren Morgan (ex-Aztecs), Ian Winter (ex-Daddy Cool), Phil Manning, Tony Mitchell (ex-Sherbet), Ray Arnott (ex-Dingoes) and Vince Maloney (ex-Bee Gees). A happy-go-lucky artist, Young was seen to be somewhat apathetic about furthering his career. A last album, recorded on a German label IC with new writers and producers, ended his career, but Young retired gracefully and now works as a disc jockey.
