ABOUT JADAKISS
b. Jayson Phillips, New York City, New York, USA. First rising to prominence as the premier rapper with east coast hip-hop trio, the LOX, Jadakiss launched his own solo career at the
start of the new millennium. Raised in the Yonkers district of New York City, Jadakiss began participating in rhyming showdowns with other local hopefuls at the age of 12 (both on the street and during his lunch break at school). Word soon spread about Jadakiss' talents, reaching another rapper, DMX (b. Earl Simmons, Baltimore, Maryland, USA), who in turn put him in contact with the hip-hop collective, Ruff Ryders, in 1994. It was through his association with Ruff Ryders that Jadakiss encountered Styles (b. David Styles, Corona, Queens, New York, USA) and Sheek Louch (b. Yonkers, New York City, New York, USA) and formed the LOX in 1996. Before the trio even had an album in the stores, they began guesting on recordings by some of rap and pop's biggest names, including hits by Sean "Puffy" Combs, Ma$e, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, among others. The trio's Money, Power & Respect was released in 1998 and almost topped the US charts, while their debut for the Ruff Ryders label, We Are The Streets, followed in 2000. The following year saw the release of Jadakiss' solo debut, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye, an overly commercial collection featuring guest appearances by the likes of Snoop Dogg, Carl Thomas, Eve, the Ruff Ryders, and DMX, among others.
