ABOUT INXS
One of Australia's most radio-friendly and longest-lived exports, INXS scored
points for maintaining both a consistent lineup and a consistently engaging, occasionally
scintillating sound. Propelled by the Mick Jagger-esque good looks of a sexy singer,
the late Michael Hutchence, and a timeless blend of textural, upbeat, R&B-influenced
rock 'n' roll (complete with horns, keyboards and occasional background signers),
INXS forged an enviably solid career path, selling more than 20 million albums
and garnering Grammy nominations, albeit without the critical acclaim that was
heaped on lesser-selling Aussie exports such as Nick Cave and Midnight Oil. Sadly,
however, the untimely death of Hutchence, at the age of 37, brought the band's
long run to a tragic end.
