ABOUT IN FLAMES
The seeds of greatness were sown in the early '90s when guitarist Jesper Strömblad left Ceremonial Oath to take his music in a different direction. Strömblad didn't exactly know which direction that was but with the help of guitarist Glenn Ljungström and bassist Johan Larsson, In Flames found their way. Gothenburg, Sweden's In Flames have defined an entire movement, placing them at the forefront of the next revolution in heavy music. No band is closer to the verge of exploding and exposing the mainstream to a whole new sonic experience. Five studio albums have laid the groundwork to mainstream acceptance, In Flames stands poised to blow the gates wide open. Their weapon of choice is Reroute to Remain; fourteen songs of conscious insanity, encapsulating their most honest, mature and brilliant music to date.
They hammered out a three-song demo that landed them a deal with Wrong Again Records. After delivering Lunar Strain, the band recorded Subterranean, an EP that combined the band's Swedish heritage with the twin-laden guitar harmonies of bands like Iron Maiden and early '90s death metal like Deicide. Subterranean "broke" the band in their local area, landing them a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The 1995 release, The Jester Race, was largely credited with establishing the "In Flames" sound and pushed the band to the forefront of the growing Gothenburg scene and gained them worldwide notoriety. They began to reach critical mass in Japan, and a European tour with Samael, Grip Inc. Kreator propelled In Flames to the top in Europe, as well. With the release of '97's Whoracle, In Flames once again dominated Europe and Japan.
