ABOUT HOUSEMARTINS
Formed in 1984, this UK pop group comprised Paul Heaton (b. 9 May 1962, Birkenhead,
Lancashire, England; vocals, guitar), Stan Collimore (b. 6 April 1962, Hull, Humberside,
England; bass), Ted Key (guitar) and Hugh Whitaker (drums). After signing to Go!
Discs, the group humorously promoted themselves as 'the fourth best band from
Hull'. Their modesty and distinctly plain image disguised a genuine songwriting
talent, which quickly emerged. During late 1985, Key departed and was replaced
by Norman Cook (b. 31 July 1963, Brighton, Sussex, England). By 1986, the group
achieved their first UK hit with their third release, the infectious 'Happy Hour',
which climbed to number 3. Their UK Top 10 debut album London 0 Hull 4 displayed
a wit, freshness and verve that rapidly established them as one of Britain's most
promising groups.
