ABOUT HOT HOT HEAT
Formed in Victoria, Canada, Hot Hot Heat made a lot of noise early on - punks
with synthesizers instead of guitars. Eventually the band mutated, with bassist
Dustin Hawthorne and drummer Paul Hawley recruiting guitarist Dante DeCaro and
pressing the microphone into the hands of keyboardist Steve Bays. Emphasis changed,
melody came to the fore, and Hot Hot Heat was reborn. In 2001, the guys released
their first LP, Scenes One Through Thirteen. That was followed up in April 2002
with the Knock Knock Knock EP, produced in part by Death Cab for Cutie's Chris
Walla. Then Hot Hot Heat did what bands are supposed to do - they toured, playing
shows with Les Savy Fav, The French Kicks, Radio 4, Gogogo Airheart and others.
After that, the band headed into Vancouver's Mushroom Studios to record with Jack
Endino. Those sessions resulted in October 2002's LP Make up the Breakdown.
