ABOUT HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH
If any band was to reintroduce the "hold my hand" motif to popular music, it would have to be band as safe as milk and as bland as bread. With simple, unpretentious smiles on their faces, Darius Rucker and his three buddies swept the country with their major-label debut, Cracked Rear View. The album spawned a string of hit singles: "Hold My Hand," (with David Crosby crafting backing vocals), "Let Her Cry," "Time," and "Only Wanna Be With You," (which lifts a verse from Bob Dylan's "Idiot Wind," admittedly with credit--"Ain't Bobby great?"--but Dylan decided he'd rather have the money and threatened to sue until he was given fair compensation). The album spent eight weeks at number one and sold more than 13 million copies.
