ABOUT GARY JULES
b. Gary Jules Aguirre, San Diego, California, USA. This US guitarist and singer-songwriter
emerged from undeserved obscurity to enjoy a surprise UK chart-topper in December
2003, collaborating with long-time musical partner Michael Andrews on a haunting
cover version of Tears For Fears' electro pop classic "Mad World".
Jules was raised in San Diego and first teamed up with Andrews while still at
high school, forming a band called the Origin. This group went on to win a major
label recording contract and released two albums in the early 90s, but by this
point Jules had already left. After a brief spell at college, he returned to music
as a member of the band Kofi who enjoyed a cult following around Los Angeles before
their eventual demise in 1990. Jules returned to San Diego and formed another
band, Ourtown Pansies, with which he recorded an independently released CD.
