ABOUT EAGLE EYE CHERRY
The youngest child of a musical family--his late father Don Cherry was (after
Miles Davis) the most influential modern jazz trumpeter of all time; his sister
Neneh Cherry recorded the 1989 top 10 album Raw Like Sushi--Eagle-Eye Cherry was
exposed to music at an early age. Born outside Stockholm, Sweden, where his father
had relocated in the late 1960s, Eagle-Eye lived a peripatetic life, shuttling
between Europe and the United States. At age 14, Eagle-Eye moved with his mother
to New York City, where he enrolled in the High School For The Performing Arts
(the Fame school). But instead of studying music, as might be expected, he took
up acting--thoug he later picked up the drums at school, playing in a series of
prog-rock bands and eventually finding his way into the city's nascent acid-jazz
and dance-music undergrounds. While he was rediscovering music, his acting career
began to take up more of his time; guest appearances on The Cosby Show and other
TV series led his being cast in South Beach, a nighttime soap-opera set in Miami.
