ABOUT BEN E KING
Ben E. King left one of the most distinctive imprints on soul vocals in all of
music history. He has provided music fans with some of pop's best loved classics
of all time. The stars lined up for King and his friends in 1959, when the manager
of the popular group the Drifters decided to scrap the original lineup and replace
them with new members. King, not yet even 21 years old, was chosen to be the group's
lead singer. The Drifters had their golden age with King in the lead, releasing
such songs as "There Goes My Baby," "Save the Last Dance for Me,"
"This Magic Moment," and "I Count the Tears," which remain
famous to this day. Fate intervened again for King who, when stranded in 1960
in a snowstorm and unable to record with his band mates, laid down some of his
own tracks which went on to become hits on their own.
