ABOUT AUDIOSLAVE
The rock world wasn't ready to let go of Rage Against The Machine when frontman
Zack De La Rocha departed in late 2000, but surely no one was expecting former
Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell to team up with remaining members of the politically
potent rock band (guitarist Tom Morello, drummer Brad Wilk, and bassist Tim Commerford).
Although the newly formed quartet made it clear that they were not the new millennium's
Soundgarden or RATM, they weren't sure what to call their new project after facing
legal issues securing the band names Civilian and Audioslave, both which were
already taken. But an unsigned British band already going by the moniker of Audioslave
eventually struck a lucrative monetary deal that allowed the Cornell-fronted American
band to also use the name.
