ABOUT ARMAND VAN HELDEN
Famed DJ/producer/remixer Armand Van Helden was born and raised in New York City,
where he first began DJing at age 15. After finishing college in Boston in 1991,
Van Helden worked as a lawyer during the day while DJing at night; he soon developed
an underground reputation up and down the East Coast for his skillful mixes and
DJ technique. Going under various monikers, Van Helden recorded a series of limited-release
singles for independent labels, then rose to mainstream prominence in 1996 with
an innovative remix of Tori Amos' "Professional Widow." Van Helden went
on to remix cuts for artists as diverse as Janet Jackson, Sneaker Pimps, the Rolling
Stones, Apollo 440, Vanessa Williams, Ace of Base and Deep Forest.
